Outraged dad of Russian student slams driving ban and community service for trucker who killed his son

A TRAGIC student's dad denounced a "mockery of justice" after the lorry driver who killed his son walked free from court .

Andrew Wilson drove his arctic through a red light, hitting a Skoda taxi carrying Russian business student Anton Dementyev , 19, and three of his friends.

Anton, who had been heading out to celebrate the end of his exams at a Glasgow city centre nightclub, died from his injuries the next day.

Wilson, from Yorkshire, admitted causing death by careless driving when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court. Sheriff Kenneth Mitchell ordered him to do 240 hours of community work and banned him for 19 months.

Anton's dad Vladimir, who travelled from Russia for the hearing, hit out: "It's not justice. We lost our son, he was our life.

Anton's friends, who were from Spain, Colombia and Kazakhstan and taxi driver William Tombe were also badly injured in the crash near the Kingston Bridge.

Sheriff Mitchell told Wilson, 55: "Anton was a much loved and popular young man.

"He had set out to achieve his goals to be a success for his family and his girlfriend. He made them proud."
