Arrests made following armed robbery at Laing's the jewellers

Police searching for an armed robber who stole £100,000 of Rolex watches from a jewellers before escaping in a hijacked taxi have detained two people.

Laing's on Frederick Street was targeted at 9.30am on Monday when a man went in and threatened staff with a gun before grabbing between 12 and 15 watches.

He ran off down Rose Street and into Hanover Street where he hijacked a private hire car.

The driver had just picked up a passenger when the robber jumped in, threatened him with a gun and demanded to be driven to the Pilton area of the city.

Following a raid at a property in the North of the City this morning police made the two arrests.
